China's CHN Energy has connected the first solar units of its 1-gigawatt offshore solar farm to the grid. This facility, located 8 km off Dongying City, is the largest of its kind in the world. The project spans 1,223 hectares and uses 2,934 solar platforms on steel truss foundations. It features a new 66-kilovolt offshore cable for efficient electricity transmission. Once fully operational, the farm is expected to generate 1.78 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to power about 2.67 million homes. It also incorporates fish farming to optimize marine space.
