China Coast Guard conducts dangerous maneuvers against Philippine vessels in West Philippine Sea
The China Coast Guard (CCG) conducted dangerous maneuvers against Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessels in the West Philippine Sea on November 30. The incidents occurred while the PCG was assisting Filipino fishermen at Rozul Reef, which is within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone. A Chinese helicopter hovered near the fishermen, prompting concerns of harassment. The PCG reported that CCG vessels closely monitored their operations, creating risks of collisions. Despite the presence of CCG vessels, the fishermen received no assistance during severe weather that caused two of their boats to sink. Fishermen reported harassment from the CCG, including the use of laser lights and threats of water cannons. They noted a significant decrease in their catch compared to previous years and expressed concern over the CCG's constant monitoring of their activities.
