China builds world's biggest hydropower dam in Tibet
China has begun construction of the world's largest hydropower dam in Tibet, a project expected to generate massive amounts of electricity. The announcement was made by the Chinese premier, marking the start of the 1.2 trillion yuan project. The dam, located on the Yarlung Tsangpo River, has raised concerns from India and Bangladesh, who fear water diversion. The project aims to produce 300 million megawatt hours of electricity annually, significantly exceeding the output of the Three Gorges Dam. The project has also drawn criticism from environmental groups and Tibetan communities. China aims to expand renewable energy and stabilize its power supply, despite concerns about potential displacement and environmental impacts.
