China builds new barges to enhance military readiness for Taiwan operations
China is building new "special-purpose barges" that can quickly deploy troops and equipment to Taiwan. These vessels are designed for shallow waters and can unload without needing port facilities, enhancing China's military capabilities. At least five of these barges are under construction at Guangzhou Shipyard International. They feature long road bridges and stabilizing pillars, allowing them to operate effectively in rough sea conditions and reach coastal areas for unloading. Analysts view this development as a sign of China's serious intentions regarding Taiwan. The new barges improve upon previous methods that struggled in challenging waters, indicating a focus on military readiness.
