China Box Office: 'Spider-Man' Leads as Nolan's 'The Odyssey' Sets Imax Preview Record

Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" took $6.9 million from Imax-only previews in China before its Friday release, while "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" held No. 1 with $28.9 million in its second weekend, reaching $185.4 million locally in 12 days. The Spider-Man sequel is nearing the $199 million earned by 2019's "Far From Home," the last U.S. superhero film to clear $100 million in China. "The Odyssey" previews drew a 95.2 percent occupancy rate, an all-time high, and scored 8.3 on Douban. "All Wishes Come True" took second with $20.4 million, while "Once Upon a Time in the Middle East" earned $15 million in previews. China's 2026 box office stands at $3.57 billion, down 31.8 percent year-over-year, though the gap has narrowed since March.
