China begins construction on 621 mph maglev train line in Hunan province
China has begun construction on a new maglev train line that aims to reach speeds of 621 mph. This line will connect Changsha and Liuyang in Hunan province and is part of a larger plan to expand the maglev network across the country. The new extension will cost approximately 10.44 billion yuan and will initially operate at around 100 mph. Currently, China's fastest maglev train, the Shanghai Maglev, reaches speeds of 268 mph, making it the fastest commercial train in the world. China's ambitious maglev project aims to develop a network that includes hyperloop technology, which could allow for even faster travel. However, significant engineering challenges remain, as existing maglev trains have not exceeded 400 mph.
