China approves at-home Alzheimer's drug Leqembi for early-stage treatment

China's drug regulator approved the subcutaneous auto-injector form of lecanemab for initial treatment of early Alzheimer's disease, enabling at-home administration for the first time. The approval covers weekly 500mg doses split into two injections, offering an alternative to biweekly hospital-based intravenous infusions. Each injection takes about 15 seconds, reducing clinic visits and healthcare resource use. China is the second country to approve this formulation, based on Phase III Clarity AD data and subcutaneous substudies. Safety and efficacy are comparable to intravenous dosing, with MRI monitoring still required.
