China advises carmakers to halt investments in EU nations supporting new EV tariffs
China has instructed its car manufacturers to pause major investments in European countries that support new tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. These tariffs, reaching up to 45.3 percent, took effect on Wednesday after a year-long investigation. Ten EU countries, including France and Poland, backed the tariffs, while five, including Germany, opposed them. Chinese automakers were advised to focus on investments in countries that opposed the tariffs and to avoid discussions with European governments individually. This guidance follows a previous warning in July about investments in countries like India and Turkey. Chinese companies have been cautious about establishing production sites in Europe due to high costs and complex regulations.
