Chicago man charged with murder in shooting of Oak Park detective

A Chicago man, Jerrell Thomas, 37, has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Oak Park Detective Allan Reddins. Thomas also faces charges for attempted murder of a peace officer and possession of a stolen firearm. Detective Reddins was shot on Friday morning while responding to a report of a gunman near a Chase Bank. He was taken to the hospital but later died, marking the first line-of-duty death for the Oak Park Police Department since 1938. Thomas was injured in the leg during the incident and is receiving treatment. The Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force is assisting with the investigation. No bond hearing has been scheduled.
