Chennai traffic police to train 50 officers as smart cops for key junctions
Chennai traffic police will train 50 more officers as "smart cops" to manage key intersections. This initiative aims to improve traffic flow at busy locations by equipping officers with skills to handle congestion and signal malfunctions. The officers will undergo two-hour daily training sessions focusing on hand signals and adjusting traffic signals based on real-time conditions. They will start at less congested areas before moving to busier spots. Smart cops will be deployed at major hotspots like Anna Salai and Egmore, using baton lights to direct traffic. The program expands due to previous success in reducing congestion during peak hours.
