Chennai is currently experiencing warm weather with temperatures around 35C. Although easterly winds are keeping things moderate for now, meteorologists warn that this is just the start of a heat wave. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature is expected to reach 35C-36C, with minimums around 26C-27C. By Wednesday, some areas in Tamil Nadu may see a rise of 2C-3C. Interior districts could even approach 40C. Experts explain that dry weather will likely continue, leading to warmer temperatures in both inland and coastal areas. N Senthamarai Kannan, director of the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre, noted that if the seabreeze is delayed, temperatures could increase significantly. In the next few days, wind patterns are expected to shift from the east to the south. Mahesh Palawat, chief meteorologist at Skymet Weather, said this change could further raise temperatures. He mentioned that the anti-cyclone over the Bay of Bengal is influencing local wind patterns. Currently, the average maximum temperature for March in Nungambakkam is 33.1C. On Monday, Nungambakkam reached 34.1C and Meenambakkam peaked at 35.1C, slightly above the normal range. Vellore recorded the highest temperature in the state at 37.6C. Following March 27, temperatures in some areas could surpass 37C.
