Chennai police deploy 16,000 personnel for Kaanum Pongal celebrations

The Greater Chennai City Police will deploy 16,000 personnel for Kaanum Pongal celebrations on January 16. This is an increase in security measures to ensure public safety during the festival, especially at popular locations like Marina Beach. In addition to police officers, 1,500 Home Guards will assist in maintaining order. Temporary control rooms and police assistance booths will be set up along key areas, along with ambulances and fire tenders for emergencies. The police will also have mechanized boats and 200 trained volunteers ready for rescue operations. These arrangements aim to prevent any incidents during the festivities.
