Chennai Metro starts twin-deck tunnel work for Phase 2 Corridor-4

Chennai Metro has begun constructing a 2,274-meter twin-deck underground tunnel between Thirumayilai and Boat Club for Phase 2 Corridor-4, using the tunnel boring machine "Eagle" to expand the city's metro network. The tunnel will pass through Alwarpet and Bharathidasan metro stations using a drive-through method, allowing the machine to continue without dismantling. A key engineering feature is the stacked twin tunnels between these stations, designed to optimize space efficiency. Officials state the project, conducted with modern technology and safety protocols, is a major milestone for completing Phase 2 on schedule. Once finished, it will strengthen metro connectivity between southern and central Chennai, improving public transport speed and convenience.
