Chandigarh police investigate thefts of surveillance equipment from smart city project

Chandigarh police have filed two new reports of thefts involving UPS units and batteries from surveillance sites in sectors 38/40 and 33/45. This follows earlier thefts reported in sectors 3 and 39. The surveillance equipment is part of a smart city project aimed at traffic management. The assistant project manager noted that multiple UPS units and batteries have been stolen from various locations since late December 2024. Police are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the thieves. All four theft cases remain unsolved, with no arrests made so far. Many surveillance sites show signs of tampering.
