Chandigarh parties demand action against Anil Masih over 2024 mayoral poll
Political parties in Chandigarh are demanding action against nominated councillor Anil Masih over the controversial 2024 mayoral election, following a municipal corporation report that proceedings against him remain pending. Masih, serving as returning officer, marked eight ballots invalid in the January 30, 2024 poll. The Supreme Court later set aside the result, declared AAP-Congress candidate Kuldeep Kumar elected, and initiated proceedings under Section 340 of the CrPC regarding Masih's conduct. The audit department has questioned delays in action under the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act and Masih's continued status as councillor. Congress spokesperson Rajiv Sharma demanded his immediate prosecution and removal, while AAP plans to meet the police chief to seek case details.
