Centre backs Chandrapur air link push with Morwa airport flights to Mumbai, Pune, Delhi

India's Union Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu has assured Ballarpur MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar of action on developing Morwa airport for regular flights to Mumbai, Pune, and Delhi. Chandrapur currently lacks commercial air service, forcing residents to travel to Nagpur. Mungantiwar requested inclusion of Morwa airport in the UDAN regional connectivity scheme and a technical review of constraints, including tall structures at Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station. The airport, 9km from Chandrapur, has a 1km runway on 62 acres. The MLA has pursued this issue since October 2025, arguing direct flights would boost industry, education, and tourism to Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve. Naidu's assurance provides fresh momentum for establishing regular air services.
