CBSE considers introducing standard and advanced levels for science and social science in classes 9 and 10

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is considering introducing two levels of science and social science—standard and advanced—for Classes 9 and 10. This follows the existing two levels of mathematics offered in Class 10. The curriculum committee has approved the proposal, aligning with the National Education Policy. However, the governing body has yet to finalize the decision. The aim is to allow students to study subjects at an advanced level before Class 11. CBSE has not set a timeline for this change, as new textbooks are still being developed. Plans for biannual board exams have also been delayed, with the initial target of 2024-25 now pushed back.
