Castelnaudary bean sector finds new life with motivated producers

The Castelnaudary bean sector is experiencing a revival, with producers motivated to cultivate nearly 100 hectares, aiming for 200 tons this year. This resurgence follows the withdrawal of a cooperative, prompting producers to independently secure sorting solutions and re-engage historical and new clients. The unique "Hidalgo" bean, known for its cooking resilience, is central to this effort. New producers are joining, and the sector aims to secure Protected Geographical Indication status for the broader Lauragais region, building on the success of the Castelnaudary bean.
