Carrara adds 100,000 euros for shopkeepers hit by streetworks
The city of Carrara will allocate an additional 100,000 euros in November to support shopkeepers affected by ongoing construction work, adding to the 150,000 euros already earmarked as compensation. The funds are part of broader relief measures announced by commerce councilor Gianmaria Nardi, who cited the dual pressures of online retail competition and streetworks. The administration is also planning Christmas initiatives to boost downtown trade, while market stalls will be relocated from the Colombarotto parking lot to allow for sidewalk renovations on Via Verdi. Nardi acknowledged the closure of historic businesses, including the 125-year-old Libreria Bajni and Tabularasa, a marble tools shop, but stressed the construction is necessary. He also mentioned plans to address the Politeama issue by year's end and noted that a certification for historic shops will be delivered this month.
