Canada tells UN it is taking robust action to protect B.C. Sikh activist

Canada told the UN it is “deeply concerned” about threats against British Columbia Sikh activist Moninder Singh and is taking robust action to disrupt foreign threats on its soil. The letter responds to five UN rapporteurs who warned in June of an “imminent threat” to Singh and his family, urging faster investigations and accountability. Canada cited CSIS Act powers and RCMP threat-notification efforts. Singh has received four duty-to-warn letters, most recently in February 2026, and criticized the system for leaving individuals “on their own.” India has denied involvement in colleague Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s 2023 killing.
