Canada reserves commercial flight seats for citizens in Lebanon as violence escalates
Canada has started reserving seats on commercial flights for its citizens in Lebanon due to increasing violence. This move comes as booking flights independently has become more difficult. The government emphasizes that these are not evacuations and will not provide transportation to the airport. The situation in Lebanon has worsened, with over 700 deaths reported from Israeli strikes amid ongoing conflict with Hezbollah. Two Canadians were confirmed among the casualties. The Canadian government is encouraging citizens to leave using these reserved seats, while loans are available for those who cannot afford tickets. Canada has increased military presence in the region but has not ordered an evacuation. Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly noted that around 45,000 Canadians are in Lebanon, with over 20,000 registered with the government. Canadians are advised to register for updates and assistance.
