Canada exports first LNG cargo from British Columbia
Canada has shipped its first-ever liquefied natural gas (LNG) export cargo from its Pacific Coast to Asia, marking a significant milestone. This inaugural shipment from the LNG Canada facility in British Columbia opens new export markets. The LNG Canada project, a joint venture, cost approximately $29.4 billion and is the first major LNG facility in North America with direct access to the Pacific. It will export 14 million metric tonnes of LNG annually when fully operational. This development allows Canada to diversify its export markets, particularly amidst trade tensions. The project's location offers a direct route to Asia, potentially giving it a competitive edge over U.S. LNG facilities.
