Caltrain reports record ridership in October with launch of electric trains
Caltrain's new electric train service has led to a significant increase in ridership, with over 753,000 passengers in October 2024. This marks a 54% rise from the previous month and the highest numbers since the COVID pandemic. Weekend ridership grew by 38%, with service now every 30 minutes. Average weekday ridership increased by 38% compared to last October, with Saturdays and Sundays seeing even larger gains of 169% and 142%, respectively. The electric trains are faster and more environmentally friendly than diesel trains. They complete the San Jose to San Francisco route in 59 minutes, stopping at 11 stations, and offer modern amenities like Wi-Fi and power outlets.
