An 18-year-old from Lancaster, California, has pleaded guilty to making over 375 false threats across the U.S. He targeted schools, religious institutions, and government officials with hoax calls about bombings and mass shootings from August 2022 to January 2024. Alan W. Filion admitted to four counts of making interstate threats. He attempted to provoke large police responses through "swatting," a practice that misleads authorities into believing there is an emergency. Filion was arrested in January after threatening a mosque in Florida. Filion faces a maximum of five years in prison for each count. A sentencing date has not been set. He also pleaded guilty to three other threatening calls made in 2022 and 2023.
