California lawsuits against Trump administration saved $207 billion, Bonta says

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced Tuesday that his office has saved the state an estimated $207.1 billion by filing 82 lawsuits against the Trump administration since the president took office last year. Bonta said the litigation protected federal funding for transportation, education and family assistance, defended birthright citizenship, blocked National Guard deployments in major cities without local approval, and prevented election interference. He credited the lawsuits with winning 45 early relief orders and 21 final orders, with the administration backing down in eight cases. The White House dismissed the lawsuits as frivolous, while Bonta's office reported spending nearly $30 million on the effort, funded partly by a $25 million special legislative appropriation. Bonta, up for reelection in November, faces Republican challenger Michael Gates, who called the campaign against Trump "out of touch."
