California launches $2 billion solar and battery storage project in Mojave

A major solar and battery storage project, Eland 1, has begun operations in Mojave, California. It features a 384-megawatt solar farm and a 150-megawatt battery system, marking one of the largest projects of its kind in the U.S. The project is part of a $2 billion investment and will eventually include a second phase, Eland 2, which is under construction and expected to launch in early 2025. Together, they will provide 758 megawatts of solar capacity and 300 megawatts of energy storage. Eland 1 created 325 jobs during construction and is projected to generate over $18 million for local services. It has a long-term power purchase agreement with the Southern California Public Power Authority.
