Calicut University postpones Senate meeting for vice-chancellor selection

The University of Calicut has postponed its Senate meeting set for January 13. The meeting was intended to recommend a nominee for the committee that will select a new vice-chancellor. P. Raveendran is currently serving as the in-charge vice-chancellor after M.K. Jayaraj's term ended in July 2024. The selection committee will include nominees from the university Senate, the University Grants Commission, and the State government. The postponement follows the release of draft regulations by the University Grants Commission regarding vice-chancellor appointments. Both the ruling party and the opposition have expressed opposition to these regulations and may pursue legal action.
