Calcutta High Court stays action against ABP journalists in 'Bhagwa goondaism' FIR case

The Calcutta High Court on Thursday received assurance from the West Bengal government that no strict action will be taken against Anandabazar Patrika (ABP) journalists facing an FIR over the 'Bhagwa goondaism' comment until the court hears their petition. The relief is conditional on the journalists complying with notices issued by investigating agencies. Senior advocate S.N. Mukherjee argued the FIR was filed as if the journalists insulted all monks nationwide, and noted their office was painted saffron during protests. The court instructed the journalists to comply with the notices, stating no action would be taken otherwise. The FIR relates to the use of the term 'Bhagwa goondaism' in coverage of alleged violence at Jadavpur University.
