Calaveras County supervisor candidate dies after fall while campaigning

Bruce Giudici, a 68-year-old candidate for the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors, died Monday after a fall while door-knocking for his campaign. His name remains on the November ballot for the District 5 seat. Giudici fell and hit his head while walking up a steep driveway in Valley Springs, suffering a massive brain bleed. He was transported to a hospital about 30 miles away but succumbed to his injuries. His campaign staff will continue actively campaigning on his behalf. Giudici led the June primary with 1,061 votes against opponent Clyde Clapp's 1,023. If he wins, the seat will be vacant and filled by appointment from the next elected governor. Giudici, a financial analyst, had prioritized budgeting, public safety, and wildfire preparation.
