CAG report reveals safety concerns and infrastructure issues in Bihar hospitals

A recent report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) highlights severe safety and infrastructure issues at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital in Bihar. Stray animals roam freely due to a lack of boundary walls, endangering patients, especially newborns. The CAG report, presented to the state legislature, also reveals widespread deficiencies in other hospitals. Many facilities lack basic amenities like drinking water and functioning toilets, with 78% of health sub-centers lacking toilets. Additionally, the report notes significant shortages of medical supplies and equipment in health and wellness centers. Many primary health centers and sub-divisional hospitals face critical bed shortages, with some reporting up to 93% shortfall.
