Cabinda reports 109 mpox cases as vaccines arrive

Angola's Cabinda province has confirmed 109 mpox cases and 24 suspected infections, with authorities declaring the situation controlled and reporting no deaths. Provincial Health Secretary Rúben Buco announced Friday a broad vaccination campaign prioritizing border areas with the Democratic Republic of Congo, with over 30,000 vaccine doses expected to arrive from the national Health Ministry. By mid-2026, Angola had recorded about 28 mpox cases across six provinces. The viral disease spreads through close contact, with symptoms including fever, body aches, and skin lesions after a 5-21 day incubation period.
