Business expanding services for autistic children in Grant Street
A new service for autistic children is opening in Decatur. The business, called ABA Service Providers, is moving to the old Grant Street bus station. Lucinda Holohan, the owner, started the business last year on Beltline Road but needs more space. The new location at 2114 Central Parkway S.W. will open on March 31. Holohan will lease the first floor, while renovations on the historic bus station by Dan Stephenson are expected to finish by June. Holohan plans to decide later whether to keep both locations. There is a growing demand for autism services in the area. Currently, Holohan has 10 clients and a waiting list of 200. She provides services to children aged 4 to 12, focusing on behavior and communication skills. Her team uses techniques to help nonverbal children express their needs and learn daily living skills. The renovated Grant Street building will also feature a playground. This project aims to support families and offer essential support for autistic children. Holohan believes early intervention is crucial for effective assistance.
