Bulgaria says Ukrainian drone exploded near Kardam after entering from Romania

Bulgaria said the drone that entered from Romania and exploded near Kardam on Saturday was likely Ukrainian and accidental, according to initial analysis. Defense officials identified it as a Maya decoy drone used by Ukrainian forces. It crashed in a sunflower field near the border, about 200 meters from a Romanian compressor station, causing no damage. Neither country's air defenses detected the low-flying device. Decoy drones aim to exhaust enemy air defenses, forcing costly interceptions. Romania’s Defense Ministry stated its radar detected no drone crossing its airspace toward Bulgaria.
