British Gas offers financial support to pensioners as winter approaches

This winter, British Gas is reaching out to two million state pensioners, encouraging them to claim Pension Credit. This benefit can provide up to £3,900 annually and is now essential for receiving Winter Fuel Payments, which have been cut for many. Due to recent changes, only pensioners receiving Pension Credit will qualify for Winter Fuel Payments, reducing recipients from 11.5 million to under two million. British Gas is also increasing its financial support, offering up to £5,900 in total assistance for eligible customers. The company is reopening its winter scheme with a budget of £40 million, raising the maximum grant from £1,500 to £2,000. Pensioners must apply for Pension Credit by December 21, 2024, to secure the Winter Fuel Payment for the 2024-2025 season.
