Brisbane's pagoda connects Nepalese migrants to their culture
Brisbane's Nepalese Peace Pagoda, one of only three outside Nepal, stands as a cultural bridge, a symbol of home for the growing Nepalese community. Built in Nepal with over a million hours of labor, the pagoda was a project spearheaded by German architect Jochen Reier for the 1988 World Expo. It was saved from removal after the expo thanks to a petition. The pagoda, a source of pride, is a cultural anchor for Brisbane's Nepalese population and a starting point for their annual festival, reflecting the significant growth of the Nepalese migrant community in Australia.
