Brian James, guitarist of the Damned, has died

Brian James, co-founder and lead guitarist of the Damned, has died at age 70. He was known for writing "New Rose," the first UK punk record, released on October 22, 1976, a month before the Sex Pistols' "Anarchy in the UK." James played a key role in the early punk scene, forming the Damned after playing in various bands. The band gained fame with their debut album "Damned Damned Damned" in 1977, but faced challenges with their second album, leading to James's departure. Throughout his career, James collaborated with several artists and formed new bands, including the Lords of the New Church. He reunited with the Damned for shows in 2022. He is survived by his wife Minna and their son Charlie.
