Breye Therapeutics raises €67.5 million for oral diabetic retinopathy treatment
Breye Therapeutics announced the successful close of an over-subscribed €67.5 million Series A financing round on September 29, 2026, co-led by Mission BioCapital and Novo Holdings, to advance its lead drug candidate into a Phase II trial. The funds will support a randomized Phase 2 clinical trial for danegaptide, a first-in-class oral treatment for Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy, with the study expected to start in 2027. New board members Robert Blazej and Lukas Ljungström will join following the investment. Diabetic retinopathy affects about 130 million people worldwide, and current treatments are invasive injections into the eye. Breye will also use the funding to develop its broader pipeline, including a P2X7 receptor antagonist for intermediate age-related macular degeneration.
