Brazil's top court rejects appeal to reimprison Nardoni and Jatobá

Brazil's Superior Court of Justice (STJ) unanimously rejected an appeal on Wednesday seeking to return Alexandre Nardoni and Anna Carolina Jatobá to prison. Both were convicted in 2010 for the death of Isabella Nardoni, Alexandre's daughter. The appeal was dismissed because the petitioner, the LGBTQIAPN+ Pride Association, failed to pay required court fees. The association alleged Nardoni improperly received open-regime status and Jatobá received prison privileges, but the court did not analyze the case's merits. Nardoni and Jatobá were sentenced to 31 and 26 years respectively for throwing five-year-old Isabella from a sixth-floor apartment in São Paulo in 2008. Jatobá moved to open regime in 2023, followed by Nardoni in 2024.
