Brazilian Schools Widen Debate on Screen Impact on Student Mental Health

Eight in ten Brazilian schools discussed the impact of digital technologies on student mental health in 2025, up from 62% in 2024. The data comes from the TIC Educação 2025 survey released Tuesday. The survey, based on 2,404 interviews with school administrators, found 75% of managers met with parents about digital technology use, and 86% discussed the topic with teachers. However, 65% of schools reported low family participation as a key obstacle to implementing related initiatives. The study also found 51% of schools ban personal cell phones, while 53% of managers use generative AI tools. Only 22% of schools have official guidelines for AI use, highlighting structural inequalities and the need for public policies.
