Braves release former MVP Andrew McCutchen from minor league deal

The Atlanta Braves released former National League MVP Andrew McCutchen from his minor league contract on Tuesday, one day after the MLB trade deadline, according to the MiLB transaction log. McCutchen, 39, joined the Braves in July after being released by the Texas Rangers, where he hit .192/.277/.260 in 83 plate appearances. He performed well at Triple-A Gwinnett, going 10-for-30 with three home runs in 32 plate appearances. The five-time All-Star spent 12 of his 18 big league seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, producing above-average offense there from 2023-24. The Braves also released left-hander Austin Gomber and outfielder Ben Gamel, with no reports linking McCutchen to a return to Pittsburgh as of Tuesday.
