New research has identified shared brain circuit abnormalities in individuals with insomnia, anxiety, and depression, potentially explaining their frequent co-occurrence. This could lead to improved treatments. Scientists analyzed brain scans of over 40,000 participants, revealing commonalities like reduced cortical surface area and weaker brain connectivity across all three disorders, alongside unique differences. The study was published in Nature Mental Health. Researchers hope these findings will provide new avenues for treatment, as the study is the first to investigate all three disorders simultaneously on a large scale, highlighting their high comorbidity.
