Boy dies in car; babysitter faces manslaughter charges
A 2-year-old boy found unresponsive in a car on Martha's Vineyard has died. His babysitter, Aimee Cotton, now faces upgraded charges of manslaughter. The 41-year-old woman was already charged with assault and battery on a child and reckless endangerment. She initially appeared in court with bail set at $2,800. The boy's condition was reported to emergency services on March 13. Cotton told them the child was not breathing and had turned blue. First responders found Cotton performing CPR on the boy. He was taken to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and later transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he died on March 19. Cotton is scheduled for a probable cause hearing on April 3 in Edgartown District Court.
