Boreal forest species struggle to recover after clear-cutting

phys.org

Boreal forest species are failing to recover after clear-cutting, with some species not returning even 100 years later, according to new research. A global analysis found that while some species recover within 30 years, others, like lichens and mosses in coniferous forests, take much longer, potentially disappearing with repeated logging cycles. The study suggests varied management strategies are needed for different forest types, including retention harvesting and longer periods between logging, to conserve biodiversity.
