Bombay HC orders minister to review woman's settlement denial
The Bombay High Court has asked the Railway Minister to reconsider his decision to deny a Rs 5 crore settlement to a woman in a vegetative state since a 2017 accident. The court is reviewing the case of Nidhi Jethmalani, injured at 17 by a Western Railway-owned car, after the minister rejected the settlement despite the court's suggestion. The court found no record of a reasoned decision for the denial. The court had previously suggested a settlement, and Nidhi's father agreed to Rs 5 crore. The court noted the file had been reviewed by multiple officers before the minister's decision.
