Body found near Annapolis school prompts trial for accused kidnapper and murderer
A man's body was discovered near an Annapolis middle school, leading to the trial of Marquis Mayo, one of three defendants accused of his kidnapping and murder. Jury selection began Monday, with opening arguments set for Tuesday. Mayo, 35, is charged with participating in the abduction and shooting of David Winchester Jr. on March 28, 2024. His sister and her ex-husband are also charged and will face trial later this year. Winchester was found shot twice in the head after being reported kidnapped. The suspects allegedly threatened his family during the abduction, and police tracked their vehicle to the school parking lot shortly after the crime.
