BMW to convert Regensburg plant logistics fleet to hydrogen by 2030

electrek.co November 30, 2024, 03:01 PM UTC

BMW plans to convert its logistics fleet at the Regensburg plant from battery power to hydrogen by 2030. The company will replace its current forklifts and tugger trucks with fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) to enhance efficiency. To support this transition, BMW will install a mile-long network of underground pipes and six hydrogen filling stations by early 2026. The annual hydrogen consumption is expected to reach around 150 tonnes once the conversion is complete. This shift to hydrogen comes amid concerns about the availability and sustainability of green hydrogen. Current prices for hydrogen are high, and the infrastructure for widespread use is still developing.
