Blind man hails Northampton audio bus displays as 'game changer'

bbc.com —

A blind man from Northampton has called new audio bus displays a "game changer" for visually impaired people, saying the technology provides greater independence during travel. Hugh Spence, 34, was among 20 people with sight issues who tested Stagecoach Midlands' new ePaper displays on a two-and-a-half-hour journey around Moulton Park on 30 September. He praised the simple design, which includes braille buttons and spoken information, noting it "worked" and made him feel "listened to". Spence, who works for NAB Sight Support, said the displays show the next five buses and are especially helpful with quiet electric buses, which are hard to hear approaching. Charity chief executive Louise Danielczuk welcomed the chance to shape the technology, while Stagecoach and council officials said the feedback would improve accessibility.
