BJP plans single nomination for new Uttar Pradesh state president election
The BJP is preparing for the election of a new Uttar Pradesh state president, likely to feature a single nomination supported by party leaders. Union minister Piyush Goyal will visit Lucknow later this month to initiate the process. The party aims to select a candidate who can effectively collaborate with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and address the needs of OBC and Dalit communities. This follows a decline in BJP's Lok Sabha seats from 62 to 33 in 2024. Before the state president is elected, 98 district presidents will also be appointed. Most will be chosen based on party rules, but the new state chief will have some influence over selections to align with their strategy.
