Bengaluru researchers alter metal optical properties with mechanical stress

Bengaluru researchers have found a new way to alter the optical properties of metals, challenging decades of physics. This breakthrough allows for the modification of how metals interact with light by applying mechanical stress. It opens new avenues for creating optical devices suitable for semiconductor manufacturing. Scientists at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research used thin titanium nitride films. Their findings were published in the journal Nano Letters.
