Bengaluru engineer loses Rs 11.8 crore in Aadhaar scam involving fake police officers
A Bengaluru software engineer lost Rs 11.8 crore in a scam where fraudsters impersonated police officers. They falsely claimed his Aadhaar was linked to a money laundering scheme, threatening him with arrest if he did not cooperate. The scam began on November 11 when the victim received a call from someone posing as a Telecom Regulatory Authority of India officer. The fraudsters claimed his SIM card was used for illegal activities, leading him to transfer large sums of money. The victim was directed to download an app for further communication and was shown fake documents. He transferred money to various accounts over time, believing he was avoiding legal trouble. Police are investigating the case.
